PhDr. Milan Tvrdík, CSc. Place and date of publishing: Prague, March 2011 The subject of the present work is Adalbert Stifter's utopia. The aim is to outline its main essence and in part describe the motives that had led Stifter to his utopia. The work describes the artistic, political and social background of the Biedermeier era and approximates Stifter as its principal representative in Austrian literature. Adalbert Stifter's talent was versatile; he had affection for nature and art. Art was one of his most faithful friends. Stifter's Biedermeier literary works are original and in a certain sense possess great depth. For every opinion in these works is put down rationally. In this regard we would be hard pressed to find selfcontent in Stifter's late work. This opinion is also shared by the Austrian writer Peter Rosegger, who regards Adalbert Stifter higher than Johann Wolfgang Goethe for this very reason. As Rosegger rightly states, Stifter's style is also very original.1 This work takes note of the utopian features in some of Stifter's short stories and in his educational...

This diploma thesis explores the lyrical poetry of Eduard Mörike (1804-1875), a German poet. The topic of the thesis is theencountering of nature and love in his works. The second part of my thesis aims to interpret selected poems, which are divided bytheir themes: romantic love, the morning, wayfaring, the forest and the so-called "Dinggedichte," or poems focusing on understanding and appreciation of a single item. In each poem, a mood or feeling that characterizes the poem is described, who is the speaker within the poem, and which topics of love and nature can be observed. From the perspective of form, I analyze the rhyme scheme. The analysis of each thematic group also contains a comparation of the poems. The interpretational part aims to connect and evaluate the interweaving of love and nature in the poetic works of Eduard Mörike and touch upon the deeper meaning of the poems. Its aim is also to make the selected works...

This thesis is an attempt to interpret the novel of Ladislav Fuks - The duchess and the art of cookery. Schwabová, Tereza ; Brožová, Věra (advisor) ; Petrbok, Václav (referee)
Morally educational stories of M. D. Rettigová and Marie Antonie as a part of czech biedermeier culture. This thesis researches educational literary output of 2 eminent authors, Magdalena Dobromila Rettigova and nun Marie Antonie (civil name Josefa Pedalova). Both of them are considered to be first czech patriotic female authors, despite the fact that Marie Antonie's name (writing under a pseudonym of Dobrovlastka) was almost erased from history of czech literature because of the strong catholic orientation in her writings. Their works are focusing on upbringing of period girl and with tendency to sentimentalism they are representing one of the most important artistic aspect of newly forming czech biedermeier.
